The Cameroon national football team, is controlled by the Fédération Camerounaise de Football and is Africa's most successful side. The nickname of Cameroon is Lions Indomptables (Indomitable Lions). Cameroon have qualified for the FIFA World Cup five times - in 1982, 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2002 . In 1990 they were the first African team to reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup. They have also won 4 African Nations Cups.
Cameroon were drawn into group 3 with Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, and Benin In the 2006 World Cup qualifying round.
Former African champions Cameroon will bid to host the 2016 African Nations Cup tournament according to their Sports Minister Augustin Edjoa.
In 1972, the central African country has hosted the tournament just once,when it was eliminated 1-0 in the semi-finals by Congo Republic, who went on to win the title.
Cameroon is one of three countries to have won the African Nations Cup four times and the only African country to have been five times to the World Cup finals, where it reached the quarter-finals in 1990.
