Who will be top scorer in World Cup 2010?

With only around 2 months before the World Cup starts, one of the favorite bets is always who will be the top goalscorer. This is something everyone has an opinion about and it’s not an easy task to pick one out. It’s important to first think about what teams will progress very far in the tournament, otherwise the chances are quite small of being top scorer should the team be knocked out in the group stages.

Looking at the current odds at Sportsbook.com we find that David Villa of Spain is the favorite together with Brazil’s Luis Fabiano at odds 11.00 (10/1). We believe there are more valuable odds further down in the list, even if David Villa always is a notorious goal scorer if Spain will succeed here.

For once England might actually have a chance of going far, and we definitely think they will pass their group easily. A bet on Wayne Rooney for 15.00 (14/1) is a good one. Rooney has been in extreme form and will miss the intense part of the season now due to injury, and should be fresh for the national team for this summer’s World Cup. For the gambler, the odds on Jermain Defoe at 34.00 might be an idea. For the more low-profile players it might be better to wait to see how big part of the team they will play…

As for now we put our money on the current best player in the world, Lionel Messi of Argentina. He’s been in a class of his own for Barcelona lately and in a strong Argentina team Messi can be dominant. Bet at Sportsbook to odds 15.00 (14/1) here.

Are we out of our minds, or we might actually have something here? Let us know in the comments what your opinion is.
